Laced Polish or Bantam Laced Padovana as they are also known are quite stunning. Pipinchick rear these lovely hens in 3 colour ways of Black, Gold and Chamois, they also come in a fun frizzle feather too. Such endearing birds to own they make wonderful pets or garden hens and have bags of character!
Handle With Care
This breed, although not hard to care for is delicate and not suited in large flocks of rangy or aggressive breeds, they will be happier in a flock of gentle breeds or breeds labelled Good With Most, avoid mixing with Hybrids, better in pairs. Check the full breed guide for more information.

Character
Bantam Laced Polish hens are such wonderful characters they are very friendly and funny little birds. They are a bantam version of the larger Padovana which are known for being incredibly happy with human company. They are inquisitive and a bit fearless, so do be careful with them around other animals as they are not great at assessing potential dangers. They can be flighty due to having large pom poms, sometimes they can’t see very well and things can surprise them. They are not known for being aggressive and as such make lovey pets for children, do ensure your little ones know how to handle them as they are small and a bit delicate. The breed also comes in a frizzle feather variety with all the same characteristics, they remind us of Fraggles from Fraggle Rock.
Suitability
Bantam Laced Polish are not for the free roaming set up, they will need a run close to your property and don’t actually like or need a large area to roam, they tend to get lost in a bigger spaces and become easy fodder for a sneaky predator. They prefer company and like to be around you and if put out into a large field they can also become overwhelmed and depressed. They need perches as the smooth feathered variety can fly and they like to roost and be up high, the frizzle feathered birds, however, cannot fly so they will need to be close to the house and have a house near to the ground. They will follow you around your garden, sit on your shoulder and generally be into everything you are trying to do. These birds are not suitable to be mixed with aggressive bantams or hybrids.
History
The true origin of this breed is actually a little muddled, some call it a Laced Bantam Polish, a variation that was cross bred to create the feather lacing and self-coloured pom-pom. In Italy and France it is known as a bantam Padovana and believed to be the result of a large Padovana cross bred with a bantam Polish to make a bantam version, you can certainly see this when you look at a Padovana, the resemblance and personality leans more to this breed than the white crested Polish.
Whether it is considered a Bantam Laced Polish or a Bantam Padovana the original breed dates back to the 1600s and are perhaps the oldest European ornamental breeds known. The hens are not known for their broodiness and will produce up to 150 small white eggs a year, they do stop laying in the winter months. Their average life expectancy is about 9 years.
