Introduction to Sizzle Silkie Chickens
Sizzle Silkies are a lovely cross breed hen created by crossing a frizzled feather chicken with a classic Silkie, Pipinchick Sizzles are bred and reared on their smallholding and are a cross of Bantam Pekin frizzles and the Bearded Silkies. This combination of breeds results in a fun loving, confident chicken that has all the intuitive and robust attributes of the Pekin and the sweet docile nature of the Silkie. Truly stunning to look at and very friendly, great for first time chicken keepers as they make excellent pets, don’t need loads of room and won’t trash your garden.
Good With Most

Character
Sizzle Silkies are very sweet birds, they have docile natures but at the same time are very cheeky and capable. They are a cross breed of Silkie and Pekin Bantams and as such retain character traits from both breeds, they have the hardy and robust nature of the Pekin but the friendly and gentle character of a Silkie. They are naturally inquisitive and very fun to own, they like people and enjoy human company, they are smart little chickens and enjoy having lots of attention and enrichment. They make fantastic first-time chicken, fantastic pets for children and perfect garden buddies.
Suitability
Sizzle Silkies are a robust little hen, although suited to our British climate they prefer to stay dry and warm, as their soft feathers are not waterproof and take a long time to dry, Sizzle Silkies do not like to be too cold or have their house in a draft.
They are, however, resilient and robust when being handled by children, they do go very broody and will often sit on an empty clutch so if you’re looking for a prolific layer the Sizzle Silkie is perhaps not for you, they will give you 4-5 small white eggs a week through the summer months, they do not lay in the winter.
They cannot fly so are better suited to a house on the ground or with a small incline ramp, due to having a Pekin element they can learn and manage a ramp but would need to be shown how to use it and this can take time and patience.
History
Silkie and Pekin hens both originate from East Asia and can be dated back as far as 1000 years. Both breeds are well established in the UK, however, the Sizzle is a fairly new concept.
Pipinchick’s Sizzles are a product of a breeding programme that begin in 2019, so they are fairly new to the U.K.
